Further information:

Frederick was born in Wotton-Under-Edge the son of a tailor and the eldest of six children with two sisters and three brothers. His mother died when he was aged 14 and in 1901, he was living in Bristol with his father and stepmother, four siblings and three step-siblings. At that time, he was working as a railway porter. Frederick married Sarah Ann Hudd, who was a boot machinist on Christmas Day 1904 and by 1911, Frederick and Sarah were living in Kingswood and apparently childless.

Frederick enlisted in the Norfolk Regiment and later transferred to the 1st/8th Battalion, Worcesters who were mobilised to France in March of 1915. During 1917 the Worcesters fought in various actions on the Western Front and it is likely that Frederick was killed in action in the later stages of The Battle of Langemarck, which was part of the Third Battle of Ypres. The battle lasted for 12 days and resulted in over 36,000 allied casualties.
