Further information:

Frederick was born in Oldland Kingswood, the son of a coal miner and the second youngest of four boys.

Frederick enlisted initially in the Berkshire Yeomanry (service no 3927) later transferring to the Hull Pals battalion of the East Yorkshires. He probably joined his battalion on active service in France some time in 1917 and would have fought in various actions on the Western Front including Battles of Arras and the Somme. Frederick died in Verlinghem France of wounds, possibly sustained during the Capture of Vieux Berquin on 13/08/1918 as this was the last major action his battalion fought in before his death.

Note: On the memorial, his initials have been given as FC not FG.
