Further information:

Fred’s birth registration was in the name of Fred Davis but he was baptised as Frederick Davis. However, when the family moved to South Wales sometime before 1901, an ‘e’ was added to the surname (Generally, Davies is a Welsh surname and Davis an English surname). Most of the records after the move to Wales record the surname as Davies.

Fred’s father was a coal miner and on the 1911 Census the family were living in Bedwas Road, Caerphilly.

Fred Davis is remembered on the St Peter's Church Memorial, Wapley and also on the Chipping Sodbury and District War Memorial Cottage Hospital board, now at Yate and District Heritage Centre, under Wapley and Codrington.
