George was born in St George in Bristol. He married Florence Mabel Jenkins in 1909.

George served with "C" Company, 6th Battalion, Leinster Regiment (Royal Canadians).

On the 9th July 1915, George's regiment embarked for Egypt from Liverpool. On 5th August 1915 they landed at Anzac and attached to the Australian & New Zealand Corps. Together they engaged in various actions against the Turkish Army including The Landing at Suvla Bay (6–15 August 1915). It was during this action that George lost his life, just six days after setting foot on Turkish soil. He was recorded as missing presumed killed in action but his body was never found. Over 20,000 names are commemorated on the Helles memorial and many like George have no known grave.
