Henry was born in Kingswood and married Laura Britton. By 1911 they had six children, 3 boys and 3 girls.
Henry enlisted in the 6th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment (5845) then later transferred to the 946th Area Employment Company, Labour Corps. With the Gloucestershire Regiment he would have mobilised to France in March 1915 and is likely to have taken part in various actions on the Western Front including The Battles of the Somme and Ypres. The 6th Glosters moved to Italy at the end of 1917 but Henry was not with them as by then he had transferred to the Labour Corps. Henry was killed in action on the fourth day of the Third Battle of the Aisne (27 May 1918 – 6 Jun 1918). It was an allied victory at the cost of 127,000 casualties.
