Henry Albert was the son of Mathew and Harriet Jones. In the 1901 census Matthew and Harriet Jones were living at Marsh Common with their four sons, Thomas (11), Henry (8), Matthew (6) and Fred (3). Matthew Jones came from the Bath area of Somerset, his occupation was given as General Farm Labourer, Harriet was born in Almondsbury, Bristol

In 1901 Thomas was working as a Cowman, Henry (18) and Matthew (16) were both working as ‘Puller Off (Brick Yard)’ and Fred (12). The 1911 Census for District 3, Almondsbury, gives the Jones’ address as Easter Compton, Almondsbury. Harriet is a widow, living with son Henry who is single and working as a Labourer

Henry enlisted in Bristol in 1918, first as Private 2264, Gloucestershire Regiment, later as Private 26978 in the 7th Battalion, King’s Shropshire Light Infantry. His death at 35 years old, is recorded as 26th March 1918 and he is remembered at Wailly Orchard Cemetery (II. B. 10.), France
