Hubert had an older sister Una May and lived at the New Inn (now the Buthay) Wickwar before moving to Whitfield Gate Farm where his father worked as a dairy farmer.
Hubert served with the 50th Royal Tank Regiment. The battle of El Alamein started at "last light" on the 23rd October, 1942 and Hubert died during the 10 days of intense fighting that followed. It is not known whether he died on the 30th or 31st October. Casualties were extremely heavy on both sides.
