Further information:
Philip was born in Kingswood, the son of a bootmaker and a middle child of seven with three brothers and three sisters. He attended Kingswood Boys School and married Florence Kate Kembrey in 1916. Together they had a son.
In 1914 Philip enlisted with the 2nd/5th Battalion, Glosters and later transferred to the 317th Company Labour Corps. He would have been involved in the heavy labouring work involved with an army on the move and would have continued in that role post-war making good damage left behind by the troops. Philip died from influenza, three months after the ending of hostilities.
