Further information:

Reginald (Reggie) was born in Kingswood, the youngest child of ten with four brothers and five sisters. His father was a coal miner and his mother was a bootmaker. Several of his older siblings also worked in the boot industry.
Reggie would most likely have enlisted on his 18th birthday and joined his battalion in France at the end of 1916, where they took part in various actions on the Western Front including The Battles of Arras and Cambrai. Reggie was killed in action during The First Battles of the Somme which was the allied response to the German offensive Operation Michael (21 March – 5 April 1918). The result of the battles was indecisive but the allies suffered 239,800 casualties including Reggie.
