Ronald was born in Barton Hill, Bristol, and he had a younger sister Doreen. Sometime prior to WW2 the family moved to Kingswood, but the father William died in 1938. Ronald joined the RAFVR around November 1940 when he was 19.
No. 62 Squadron were based in India during 1945 and they were equipped with Douglas Dakota III cargo/transport plane which they used to support forward troops and evacuate wounded etc. Ronald was the Wireless Operator/Air Gunner out of a crew of 4. They were all killed when their plane crashed into a hillside in North west India (near the Burma/Myanmar border) due to bad weather. All 4 were buried in the Imphal War cemetery the next day.
