Reginald Stinchcombe was born in about 1896 in Wickwar. His parents were Robert and Elizabeth Stinchcombe (nee Poole) and his siblings were Amy, Ernest (Thomas), Gilbert and Lionel. The family lived at Sodbury Road, Wickwar. His father was a farm labourer and was born in Hawkesbury. Reginald was working as a grocer’s errand boy in 1911.

Reginald served with the 1st/4th Battalion of the Gloucestershire Regiment as a private. He died in February 1917 at the age of 20. He is buried in the Assevillers New British Cemetery in France.

Reginald Stinchcombe is commemorated on the Wickwar Holy Trinity Church Memorial, the Wickwar Village Hall Memorial and the Chipping Sodbury and District War Memorial Cottage Hospital board, which is now at Yate and District Heritage Centre, under Wickwar and Hillersley.

Reginald was awarded the Victory and British War medals.
