Randolph was stationed at RAF Newmarket, Suffolk, the runway being part of the racecourse. On the day of his death Randolph and 5 other crew members took off from RAF Newmarket, in Wellington bomber P9243 on a night bombing raid of the port of Wilhelmshaven, Germany. The aircraft and crew disappeared without trace and Randolph was reported as missing presumed killed.
