Reginald enlisted in the RAF volunteer reserve in 1939 and in June of 1941 was stationed at RAF Great Massingham, Norfolk. On the day of his death, he and 2 others took off in Blenheim V6367 for a daylight anti-shipping patrol. The aircraft was recalled due to lack of cloud cover but it subsequently disappeared without trace and nothing more was heard of the crew. In 1947, windows on the North side of the Nave of Holy Trinity Church were renewed in commemoration of and dedicated to Reginald and 4 others.
