Further information:

215 squadron formed on 9 December 1941 for service in India, operating Vickers Wellington aircraft. After training in England, Robert flew out to India with his squadron in March 1942. Almost immediately they went into action dropping supplies to the troops retreating from Burma. The squadron spent 1942 carrying out coastal patrols and training to operate with airborne forces and in March 1943 bombing missions began. At the time of his death Robert was stationed at Jessore and was most probably killed during one of these bombing missions.
