Terry enlisted in the RAF in 1940 and was stationed at RAF Wratting Common Suffolk from the 31st May 1943. His squadron was involved in the Battle of the Ruhr, North Germany which was an allied victory in July 1943. On the day of his death, Terry's crew took off from Wratting Common for a routine daytime air test of Stirling bomber EF 497. They subsequently collided with trees and crashed near Henley on Thames, Oxfordshire, killing Terry and the other 6 members of the crew.
