Cllr June Bamford has been named as the new Chair of South Gloucestershire Council after being elected at the Council’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) last night (1 July).

Cllr Bamford moves into the role after serving as Vice Chair last year, with Cllr Ruth Davis being elected as Vice Chair for this year.

Each year, the Chair chooses a charity or charities to support for the year ahead with donations received during that time presented at the end of the Chair’s term of office, with Cllr Bamford due to announce her choice soon.

At the meeting, which was held virtually this year due to the COVID-19 outbreak, outgoing Chair, Cllr Brian Allinson announced that the total figure raised last year was £2,387 which will be split equally between Great Western Air Ambulance and Patchway Memory Café.

Chair of South Gloucestershire Council, Cllr June Bamford said: “It’s an honour to be named as Chair of South Gloucestershire Council and I am looking forward to representing South Gloucestershire over the coming 12 months.

“I must thank Cllr Allison for all his hard work as Chair last year, he has been an excellent ambassador for this council.”
