South Gloucestershire Council hosted a special reception at Kingswood Civic Centre on 2 October to honour the outstanding achievements of West Littleton resident Harry Meade, who recently became the FEI Eventing World Number One.
The reception was led by Chair of South Gloucestershire Council, councillor Katie Cooper, who brought together councillors, honorary aldermen, council staff, and members of Harry’s family and close-knit team to celebrate his remarkable success and inspiration to others.
Also welcomed were residents of South Gloucestershire with a passion for equestrian sports, reflecting the district’s strong local ties to the world-renowned Badminton Horse Trials. During the evening guests experienced a unique opportunity to meet Harry and his team and hear about his journey to the pinnacle of his sport.
Chair of South Gloucestershire Council, councillor Katie Cooper, said: “It is a privilege to recognise Harry’s extraordinary accomplishments and to celebrate how proud South Gloucestershire is of his achievements. His standing as the world’s best event rider is testament to his hard work, dedication and an indomitable spirit found so often within our local communities. I would like to thank everyone for making the evening so memorable and I wish Harry many more years of success.”
Harry Meade was presented with a framed certificate in recognition of outstanding sporting achievement. He said: “I’m very grateful to South Gloucestershire Council for the warm reception and recognition for becoming the world number one.
“The support from the local community has meant a great deal to us throughout the past twenty years. I’ve lived here my whole life and am proud to fly the flag around the world for South Gloucestershire.
“To be recognised by the council is hugely rewarding for the wider team behind me that contribute to our success; it was a lovely surprise and very humbling.”
