The money has been secured as Section 106 (S106) developer contributions from developments in Almondsbury, Bradley Stoke, Hambrook Lane, Rangeworthy and Yate.

Councillor Sean Rhodes, cabinet member for communities and local place at South Gloucestershire Council, said: “I’m very pleased that South Gloucestershire Council has negotiated this funding from developers to support local sports facilities and improve open spaces in the area.

“It’s important that housing developers contribute towards the infrastructure needed to meet the needs of growing communities. These new facilities, public open space improvements and nature enhancements will help ensure even more people can be active and enjoy the outdoors in their local area.”

Under Section 106 (S106) of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 (as amended) the council is able to secure financial contributions from developers in order to offset the costs of the external impacts arising from the development. This is to support the open space infrastructure that the council needs to have in place to support demands generated by the development.
