South Gloucestershire’s libraries are busy gearing up for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Since the Jubilee falls over the school holidays, libraries across the area are holding events for all ages that are a mix of their holiday craft sessions for primary aged children along with some special events – all with a Jubilee theme.

To mark this special occasion, libraries across the South West are teaming up to encourage staff and visitors to wear a hat to the library. In addition, local artist Emily Ketteringham has been commissioned to produce bespoke arts and craft resources for the libraries to use to celebrate the Jubilee.

Councillor Rachael Hunt, cabinet member responsible for libraries, said: “The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee presents a superb opportunity for communities to come together to celebrate this remarkable milestone in her historic reign.

“In addition to the many street parties and celebration events taking place across South Gloucestershire, you can also visit your local library during the half term school holidays where there will be Jubilee themed activities for the whole family. Our libraries play a key role in our communities and events such as these are a great way to meet your neighbours and for children to develop a love for reading and enjoy being creative in a safe environment.”
