Sports facilities and public open spaces across South Gloucestershire will be receiving a total of £1,173,898.90 for new provisions and improvements thanks to Section 106 (S106) developer funding secured by South Gloucestershire Council.

One of the recipients is Charfield Junior Football Club which will receive £102,214.65 capital and £30,946.69 revenue funding towards the construction of a new club house at Moreton Ground in Tortworth.

James Pearce, coach at Charfield Junior Football Club, said: “Thanks to South Glos Council for this allocation of funding. It will make a massive difference to our community and put us in a much better position to attract new players and coaches. This building will be much better as we use cabins at the moment.”

Councillor Sean Rhodes, cabinet member for communities and local place at South Gloucestershire Council, said: “It’s important that housing developers contribute towards the infrastructure needed by growing communities, so I’m very pleased that South Gloucestershire Council has been able to negotiate this funding to support local sports facilities and improve open spaces in the area.
“We have funded everything from facilities for football teams to equipment for an archery club and improved toilets at allotments. These new facilities and public open space improvements will help ensure even more people in the area can be active and enjoy the outdoors. And as well as providing opportunities for improving our physical wellbeing, sports clubs also play a crucial role in our communities, improving our mental health and wellbeing by bringing people together to share those facilities.”
