As we mark Hate Crime Awareness Week 2025, South Gloucestershire Council clearly reaffirms its unwavering commitment to building a fairer, safer, and more inclusive area for everyone who lives, works, studies, and contributes to our communities.
Hate has no place in South Gloucestershire.
Our Council Plan sets out a bold vision for a South Gloucestershire that is fairer, greener, and more inclusive. This vision is supported by our Tackling Inequalities Plan which is about taking proactive action to identify, understand and eliminate inequalities. This work specifically includes tackling hate crime. It delivers significant social and economic benefit for everyone across our district.
We want to ensure that South Gloucestershire is a place where everyone feels, and is welcome, regardless of such characteristics as ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion/belief, or disability. This vision is not just words, it is embedded in everything we do, and we are committed to listening, learning, and acting in partnership with our residents.
We believe that inclusion is not optional, it is essential. That’s why we work closely with a wide range of forums and networks, including the Armed Forces Community, the Community Cohesion Forum, the Diversity Trust, the Equalities Forum, Multi-Faith Forum, and the South Gloucestershire Disability Equality and Race Equality Networks. This work ensures that all voices shape our policies and services, and we are committed to continue to develop how we engage with all communities, so everyone has their say in local decision making.
We value all our residents, and we stand in solidarity with victims and survivors of hate crime.
South Gloucestershire Council will continue to stand against hate and stand up for inclusion.
