There is a national shortage in disposal capacity for fridges and freezers. Many processors that deal with them are closed or full. This means there is less space to treat these items.
We are currently still taking fridges and freezers at our recycling centres. Space is very tight and we will check the situation every week. If the situation continues, we may have to stop taking fridges and freezers at short notice.
What you can do
If your fridge or freezer still works:
- Sell it
- Give it to someone local
- Donate it to charity or a community group
- Pass it on to friends or family.
If you are buying a new appliance, many shops will take your old fridge or freezer when they deliver your new one. This helps reduce pressure on our sites.
Check our website before you try to dispose of a fridge or freezer at a recycling centre or through a large household item collection.
