A development of new homes for affordable rent has been officially opened in Yate.

The 24 houses and apartments, at Kelston Close, were developed by local housing association Solon, which part funded the scheme together with the Government’s Homes & Communities Agency on land provided by South Gloucestershire Council.  The new homes were built to a high standard including lifetime homes and Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3, by E G Carter & Co Ltd. following the demolition of a former elderly persons’ home.

Paul Ville, Solon Housing Chief Executive, thanked South Gloucestershire Council for its support and patience during complex negotiations to save the scheme when the original developer pulled out.  He said, “the eventual completion of these much needed affordable homes for local families is largely thanks to this, and to excellent partnership working with the Council, the HCA and E G Carter & Co Ltd.

Cllr Ben Stokes, the Council’s Adults, Housing and Public Health Lead Member congratulated Solon and EG Carter & Co Ltd. on the completion of a good scheme, adding: “South Gloucestershire Council and Solon have had a positive and successful relationship providing affordable homes for a number of years and I hope that this partnership will continue long into the future.”
