Schools in South Gloucestershire are celebrating success in their GCSE results.
Almost 63 per cent of students in South Gloucestershire have achieved the new, more demanding grade, of 4 or above in English and mathematics.
All schools have highlighted some special achievements and success for individual students. Bradley Stoke Academy, The Castle, and Winterbourne International Academy have recorded some particularly high results. Marlwood and Brimsham Green schools have recorded their highest ever results.
These results represent a huge amount of hard work and commitment by students, staff and school leaders across all seventeen secondary schools. Our thanks also go to parents for supporting their children throughout the examination period to ensure they secure success.
Cllr Toby Savage, Cabinet Member responsible for schools, visited his former school Marlwood School today to congratulate students receiving their best ever results. He said: “Students celebrated exam success today with the release of GCSE results, and the provisional results show almost 63 per cent of students in South Gloucestershire have achieved the new, more demanding grade, of 4 or above in English and mathematics.
“These results represent a huge amount of hard work and commitment by students, staff and school leaders across all seventeen secondary schools. Our thanks also go to parents for supporting their children throughout the examination period to ensure they secure success.

Marlwood School has achieved its highest ever results, with 74 per cent of students achieving Grade 4 (C) or above in both English and Maths. This is an improvement of 16 per cent on the 2016 results.
Marlwood head teacher James Pope said: “Students at Marlwood School are celebrating the highest results in the school’s history. We are delighted with the individual performance of a large number of our students. Their results are a reflection of the hard work they have devoted to their study and the support and dedication of Marlwood School staff. We would like to extend our congratulations to them all and the families who have supported them. Well done!”
