South Gloucestershire Council has approved £143,943.42 of Section 106 (S106) open space developer funding for projects across the area.
The funding will be used to enhance the capacity of both outdoor sports facilities and play facilities and was successfully secured by the council through the planning process as Section 106 (S106) financial contributions from housing developers.
The projects recommended to receive S106 funding in the latest round of awards are:
- Bitton AFC: £57,537.50 capital / £17,414.71 revenue towards floodlight improvements and the purchase of a tractor at Bitton Sports and Social Club, Bitton.
- Patchway Town Council: £876.99 capital / £1,180.99 revenue towards the construction of an education hub at Pretoria Road Allotments, Patchway.
- Yate Town Council: £32,626.36 capital / £34,306.87 revenue towards play improvements at Longs Drive Play Area, Yate.
South Gloucestershire Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Local Place Councillor Sean Rhodes confirmed the awards on 3 March. He said: “We are thrilled to announce the approval of Section 106 funding for these community open space projects. These investments will help enhance our outdoor sports and play facilities, providing more opportunities for residents to engage in physical activity and improve their well-being.
“These projects exemplify our commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all residents in South Gloucestershire. The improvements to Bitton AFC’s floodlights and the purchase of a new tractor will enhance training opportunities and reduce match cancellations, benefiting both players and spectators. The creation of an education hub at Pretoria Road Allotments in Patchway will provide a valuable space for learning and social interaction, fostering community spirit. Additionally, the play improvements at Longs Drive Play Area in Yate will offer young children and their families a safer and more enjoyable environment.”
This round of S106 Open Space funding stems from the following development sites:
