South Gloucestershire Council working in partnership with Bath & North East Somerset Council’s property company Aequus Construction Ltd (ACL) has been selected as a finalist in the Bristol Property Awards for two categories – ‘Residential Development’ and ‘Civic’ for their development at Manor Gardens in Frenchay, South Gloucestershire.

Located on Malmains Drive, Manor Gardens is a 30-home new build development consisting of 19 three and four bedroom open market homes and 11 affordable homes, which is innovative as all plots irrespective of tenure have the highest level of energy efficiency rating – an EPC A rating.

The contemporary family homes have been designed to provide excellent space standards in line with feedback from local agents particularly recognising the increase in flexible working and the need for home office space. The development also benefits from the provision of a publicly accessible children’s playground.

Wherever possible goods and services have been sourced locally. By implementing this approach, local businesses and the local workforce have been supported as well as minimising journey time and carbon emissions. Over 75 per cent of the contracts for Manor Gardens development have been awarded to local companies within a 50-mile radius of the site.

Councillor Adam Monk, cabinet member responsible for resources at South Gloucestershire Council, said: “We’re very pleased to see our energy efficient development at Manor Gardens shortlisted in two categories at the Bristol Property Awards.

“As well as providing new homes for people in our communities, including eleven affordable homes and eight designated for social rent, the sustainable development uses the latest technology to reduce its impact on the climate and keep down running costs for those who live there.”

Chair of Aequus Group, Charles Gerrish welcomed the shortlisting announcement saying: “This is another great achievement for Aequus and our local authority partners. We together we are continuing to deliver quality and energy efficient homes with a range of benefits for the local communities.”

The winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on 24 November 2023.

The development is being delivered by Aequus in partnership with South Gloucestershire Council on a sales and overage basis with a share of profits returned to the council for public benefit in addition to the capital receipt paid for the site. All Aequus profits from this development are returned to their shareholder, B&NES to support front line services.
