South Gloucestershire Council has approved £368,419.05 of Section 106 (S106) open space developer funding for projects in Bradley Stoke and Old Sodbury.
The funding will be used to enhance accessibility and capacity of outdoor sports facilities and play facilities and was successfully secured by the council through the planning process as Section 106 (S106) financial contributions from housing developers.
The projects recommended to receive S106 funding in the latest round of awards are:
- Bradley Stoke Town Council: £25,472.70 capital / £44,900.24 revenue towards construction of a safe school walking route at Baileys Court Activity Centre, Bradley Stoke.
- Bradley Stoke Town Council: £67,170.55 capital / £20,330.34 revenue towards redevelopment of the changing rooms at Bradley Stoke Activity Centre, Bradley Stoke.
- Bradley Stoke Town Council: £22,507.31 capital / £23,666.61 revenue towards refurbishment of the Rosemary Close play area.
- Sodbury Woodland and Nature: £7,712 capital / £1,000 revenue towards the creation of a small woodland on land opposite the Sodbury House Hotel, Old Sodbury.
- Old Sodbury Football Club: £54,131.58 capital / £12,840 revenue towards drainage and access improvements at Old Sodbury Playing Field, Old Sodbury.
- Sodbury Town Council: £43,230.51 capital / £45,457.21 revenue towards refurbishment of the play area at Old Sodbury Playing Field.
Councillor Sean Rhodes, South Gloucestershire Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Local Place, said: “We are delighted to approve Section 106 funding for these community open space projects. These investments stem from local developments and will help improve accessibility and enhance a number of outdoor sports and play facilities, offering more opportunities for residents to engage in physical activity and improve their wellbeing.
“In Bradley Stoke, there will be a new walking route and improved changing facilities at Baileys Court Activity Centre, along with a renovated play area at Rosemary Close. In Old Sodbury, a small woodland will be created to benefit nature and local people, along with a refurbished play area and drainage and access improvements at Old Sodbury Playing Field. These projects demonstrate our commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all residents in South Gloucestershire.”
This round of S106 Open Space funding stems from the following development sites:
- P23/01546/F – Land off Bradley Stoke Way, Bradley Stoke, South Gloucestershire
- P21/03344/F – Land South of Badminton Road, Old Sodbury, South Gloucestershire.
