We are experiencing a period of hot weather, which may affect some of our services. We are doing everything we can to maintain services safely, but there may be some changes.

Staying safe in hot weather

Hot weather can be dangerous, particularly for older people, young children, and those with underlying health conditions.

A red heat health alert is the highest level of alert and indicates a risk to everyone’s health, not just vulnerable groups.

For practical advice on how to stay safe, including how to keep your home cool and recognise signs of heat-related illness, read the Government advice.

Service updates

School closures

If any schools are closed or operating different hours due to the heat, updates will be published on our school closures list.

Home to school transport

All home to school transport arranged by the council has been cancelled for Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 June due to the high temperatures expected inside vehicles.

Waste and recycling collections

Collection crews are prioritising food bins, black bins, green bins, hygiene and nappy waste bags. Collections may start before 7am so please put your bins and bags out the night before unless told otherwise. For the latest updates, follow us on the StreetCare Facebook page or download the South Glos app and make sure you have opted in to receive notifications from us:

1) Tap Settings

2) Select Notification preferences

3) Switch on ‘Waste Collection Reminders’

One Stop Shops

Some One Stop Shops are operating on reduced hours due to high indoor temperatures due to lack of air conditioning in certain buildings.

Yate and Patchway One Stop Shops will close at 12.30pm on Wednesday 24 June and Thursday 25 June.

Kingswood One Stop Shop will remain open both days.

Cambrian Green

Cambrian Green Day Services are closed for the remainder of the week due to the heat.

Please bear with us

The hot weather is affecting how some services can be delivered safely. This means some services may run at reduced capacity and others may be slower than usual. If you are accessing one of our services, please check before travelling.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.
