Neglect

Childhood Neglect

Nationally neglect is the most common category of abuse recorded for children on protection plans, accounting for almost half of children on a plan.

There is local practice guidance on neglect which has been produced by South Gloucestershire Children’s Partnership

SGCP Practice Guidance – Neglect 2026

The multi-agency Neglect Toolkit is available for use by professionals from all organisations, or a team of professionals, to help assess and review neglect within families, even at a low level, and to plan for change.

Watch this 20 minute video to support you to use the tool and answer some frequently asked questions.

You can use the new neglect tool by clicking here

In the downloads section on this webpage there are a range of resources that you can use directly with children and families where there are concerns about neglect, to support and encourage open conversations and to gain an understanding of children’s daily lived experiences.
