Young Carers

South Gloucestershire Children’s Partnership is committed to identifying young carers and offering them the support they are entitled to, in order to promote their physical and emotional wellbeing. There is “no wrong door” for young carers in South Gloucestershire which means all professionals working with children and their families need to understand their responsibilities to young carers and how to meet these.

For professionals working with children in South Gloucestershire, the various documents on this page will help you to understand how to identify and support young carers.

The Practice Guidance is available here

SGCP 2 Page Practice Guidance – Young Carers

A Young Carer is someone under 18 who helps look after a family member or friend due to:

  • illness
  • disability
  • alcohol or drug misuse
  • mental health issues

Training – Young Carers

To learn more about how to identify and support young carers, you can book onto the training course on Identifying Young Carers: Our Responsibilities and Duties.

There is also a shorter Bitesize Young Carers Awareness session available to book now.

Both of these training opportunities are open to all professionals working with children, young people and their families across South Gloucestershire.
